Annette Funicello danced in an amateur production in Fullerton, California in Swan Lake when Walt Disney was introduced to her. The teenager was just 13 at that time. Funicello was not a candidate to join The Mickey Mouse Club and joined after the beginning of season one of the show, much to the annoyance by the show's Mickey Mouse Club peers.
